WASHINGTON — After nearly forty years of obscurity, the “food is medicine” movement is having a moment.

Multiple federal agencies are working on food is medicine projects, major organizations have pledged hundreds of millions in research funding, and billions more are being invested in food-focused startups. Even the White House has publicly announced its support for the movement, which focuses on the use of healthy food as a medical intervention for certain chronic and diet-related diseases.

“We are at the inflection point,” said Dariush Mozaffarian, the dean for policy at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

Herb-Infused Chocolate Supports Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

Imagine eating chocolate that didn’t cause your blood sugar levels to spike.

Israeli startup SOLVEAT says it can offer just that, with its edible blend of herbal extracts that can be used in chocolate and other foods to support healthy blood sugar levels.

SOLVEAT’s clinical team observed that the chocolate that includes the startup’s formula had significant clinical efficacy in controlling blood sugar levels.

Heart disease risk can be reduced by ‘eliminating’ certain foods – expert

Heart and circulatory diseases are among the biggest killers in the UK, accounting for around a quarter of all deaths.

Of these, coronary heart disease is the most common type.

Study: healthy lifestyle, green diet could slow brain aging

A new study by researchers from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev found that a healthy lifestyle based on a green Mediterranean diet could slow down the aging process in the brain.

The green Mediterranean diet differs from the regular Mediterranean diet due to high amounts of dietary polyphenols (phytochemicals, secondary metabolites of plant compounds that offer various health benefits) and lower quantities of red and processed meat.

Some Jewish children are surviving on just a bagel for lunch due to school meal funding problems, the Government’s anti-Semitism adviser told Parliament.

News emerged this week that a second kosher caterer has withdrawn its services from 18 Jewish schools in London due to spiraling costs.

As hundreds of pupils from deprived areas went without hot meals, bakeries stepped in to provide them with lunchtime bagels.
