Gut health firms highlight precision ingredients at trade show - precision gut health
In Japan, a clinical trial demonstrated that daily consumption of LP299V improved bowel regularity in adults experiencing loose stools.

Clasado Biosciences and Probi will feature their biotic ingredients at the upcoming SupplySide Global trade show (Oct 28–30 in Las Vegas), as the gut health sector moves from general wellness claims to precise scientific applications. Both firms are promoting their prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics as specialized tools for specific health outcomes, including immune support, metabolic regulation, and stress reduction.

The trade show arrives amid growing consumer sophistication about gut health. Marcelo Durante, Clasado’s VP of sales and marketing, explains that the term once served as a broad marketing buzzword, but today’s buyers insist on ingredients with documented benefits. “First, consumers are reading labels more closely. They want to see specific ingredients with a clear benefit at a research-proven dose, which can easily be fact-checked based on the tools available.”

This demand has raised prebiotics from supporting ingredients to primary components in formulations. Unlike many prebiotics, it delivers measurable effects at minimal doses—just 380 mg per day—making it practical for formats like capsules, powders, and gummies where space and tolerability are concerns.

Probi’s Proven Strain Targets Iron and Digestion

Probi is advancing its targeted approach with clinical evidence. The company will showcase its Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP299V probiotic strain, which a September 2026 review confirmed enhances iron absorption by 20–50% by improving solubility and reducing dietary inhibitors. In Japan, a clinical trial demonstrated that daily consumption of LP299V improved bowel regularity in adults experiencing loose stools.

Formulation hurdles persist, particularly for prebiotics in non-capsule applications. “Examples include daily gut health supplements, low-dose capsules, powders, and gummies,” he notes. Probi’s Bryan Gray adds that postbiotics also open new formulation opportunities.

Probi’s Rham271h postbiotic addresses stability challenges by eliminating the need for live bacteria, avoiding the viability issues common in traditional probiotics. The company will present new clinical data for LP299V and LpGOS42, illustrating how postbiotics and synbiotic combinations can extend beyond supplements into functional foods and beverages.

Science Over Hype: Gut Health’s Research-Driven Shift

Both firms emphasize that the next phase of gut health depends on verifiable science rather than marketing claims. Durante says that those effects work upstream of many varied outcomes. “To build on that, we’ve nurtured a long-term research program that looks at prebiotic effects, digestive health, immune function, and.”

Its stability across processing conditions, including heat and moisture, expands applications to shelf-stable products like fortified drinks and baked goods.

Probi’s portfolio will highlight postbiotics like Rham271h, which eliminate live bacteria requirements, enabling use in products exposed to extreme pH or heat, such as fermented foods or ready-to-drink beverages. Gray notes that postbiotics simplify formulation by removing viability concerns while delivering microbiome benefits. Clinical data for LP299V and LpGOS42 will demonstrate how these ingredients can be customized for specific health goals, including iron absorption, metabolic support, or digestive irregularities in sensitive populations.

Consumer interest in gut health now extends to metabolic wellness and women’s health as key growth areas. Probi’s LP299V strain has been studied for its ability to boost iron absorption by 20–50% in clinical settings, aligning with demand for functional foods tailored to active lifestyles. A Japanese trial showed daily LP299V consumption improved bowel habits in adults prone to loose stools, suggesting targeted applications in digestive wellness for specific demographics.
